Photo: Spanish Olympian Andreu Vivo Dies
Spanish Olympic gymnast Andreu Vivo died of a heart attack in the Catalonian district of Collbaix early Sunday morning while he was mountain climbing, the Catalonian Gymnastics Federation confirmed.
Vivo, 34, who competed in the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, began to feel ill after climbing the Collbaix peak with a friend and collapsed soon after beginning the descent. When emergency management personnel arrived at the scene they were unable to revive him, according to the daily Regio 7.
The funeral for the Catalan gymnast will be held next Thursday, Jan. 3, at 10:00 a.m. in his hometown of Manresa at the Church of Christ the King.
