Two Mexican nationals were fatally shot while staying at a roadside hotel on the Atlantic Route highway, Guatemala’s PNC national police force said.
The shooting took place around 11:30 p.m. Thursday, shortly after brothers Pablo and Daniel Flores Aguilar checked-in.
The hotel manager told PNC officers that he heard gunshots a few moments after an unknown man arrived looking for the Mexicans.
Pablo, 46, was pronounced dead the scene, while 50-year-old Daniel died later at a hospital in Guatemala City.
Authorities have no clues as to the motive for the double-murder, the PNC said.
Guatemala suffered 34 homicides for every 100,000 inhabitants in 2013, according to official statistics. The global median is fewer than 10 murders per 100,000 people.
