18 States threaten their own versions of SB 1070

Lawmakers or Candidates from nearly 20 other states say they want to follow in Arizona’s footsteps with sweeping new immigration laws.

From Gubernatorial candidates in Minnesota and Florida to lawmakers in Idaho and Nebraska, politicians say they want to push similar measures when their legislative sessions start up in 2011. States are watching legal challenges to the Arizona law very closely as well as the impact of the Arizona boycotts on their economy.

Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Minnesota, Michigan and South Carolina legislators have already introduced similar bills to the Arizona law.

President Obama has called Arizona’s law irresponsible, and that immigration is a federal matter rather than a state responsibility.
