As more state census figures are released they are bearing true what the general census numbers indicated – population growth in the U.S. was triggered by the growth in the Hispanic population.
Statewide in Alabama the Latino population grew by an astounding 145 percent and in certain counties of the state that growth got as high as 300 percent. In Shelby county the Hispanic population went from 2,910 to 11,567.
More populated areas of Alabama also saw a strong increase in its Hispanic population, for example the Birmingham-Hoover metropolitan area saw Hispanic population grow by 161 percent over the last ten years.
The growth is being tied to births to Latino moms not from immigration.
