An early morning traffic accident, occurring on the highway connecting Nuevo Laredo to Monterrey, Mexico has left 10 members of the musical banda group La Reyna de Monterrey dead and 5 others injured.
Early reports indicate that the driver of the La Reyna van apparently fell asleep and veered into oncoming traffic eventually colliding head-on to a TNL Express tractor-trailer.
The accident occurred between 7:00-8:00 a.m. local time when the group was traveling back from the U.S. after performing in Laredo, Texas. Other reports indicate that the group had performed in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas. The group’s last posting, six hours ago, on their Facebook page indicates they were in Nuevo Laredo at the “Laguito Bar’ performing.
The impact of the crash was so severe that many of the deceased were thrown from the vehicle onto the roadside. The majority of the banda group are young men under 25-years-old.
The injured were taken to a hospital in Salinas Hidalgo.
