More than half of Americans - 53 percent - think that the legal process for reviewing the cases of undocumented Central American children who cross the country’s southern border should be speeded up, whether that results in their being given asylum or deported, according to a Central Pew Research survey published Wednesday.

Meanwhile, 38 percent of U.S. citizens say that the laws should remain as they are, despite the fact that the process takes a long time and the detention centers for the children in the border zone are full.

President Barack Obama’s administration has discretely notified Congress of its intention to transfer to Uruguay six prisoners from the U.S. base in Guantanamo, Cuba, a State Department source told Efe on Wednesday.

“The administration has given Congress 30 days (advance) notice about the intention to transfer these six detainees from Guantanamo to Uruguay,” the source said.

Four Nicaraguans suspected of raping a U.S. tourist in northern Costa Rica were released Wednesday after the 19-year-old victim declined to witness a lineup, authorities said Wednesday.

“The young woman was spoken to. The U.S. Embassy, our victims and witness people tried to help her, but she refused (to view the lineup). What’s certain is that we can’t keep the people in custody without any proof,” the head of the OIJ investigative agency, Francisco Segura, told a press conference.

Federal authorities and the Ministry of National Defense (Department of Defense) are insisting that they have arrested Damaso Lopez Jr., aka the “Mini Lic.”

He is the son of Damaso Lopez Nunez, known as “The Bachelor” and godson of Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman. It is reported that he was arrested in possession of a kilo of cocaine and several weapons. He posted on “Facebook”, yesterday where he was so it is thought perhaps this aided authorities.

“The Mini Lic” is no more than 28 years old, has been recognized as leading a criminal cell called “Special Forces Damaso” which was created by his father.  Lopez Jr., also leads a network of young people from the Sinaloa Cartel that have been participating in social networks under the name of “Group anthrax” or “The anthrax” organization led by Ismael Zambada, alias ‘Mayito Gordo’. They are known to recruit assassins who are serving the “Sinaloa Cartel.” In various Facebook and Twitter accounts,  weapons, drugs, travel and women are exhibited;  many users will share images,etc. The Godson of “El Chapo” has over two thousand facebook followers.

Atletico Madrid and Portugal’s Benfica have reached an agreement that will bring Slovenian international goalkeeper Jan Oblak to Spain, the La Liga club said Wednesday.

The 21-year-old Oblak still must pass a medical exam before his transfer to the Spanish club is finalized.

More than 11 tons of fish, chicken and beef smuggled into Colombia from neighboring Venezuela were seized in the northeastern border province of Norte de Santander, the customs and tax police said Wednesday.

In an initial operation, authorities seized roughly eight tons of fish valued at some $32,000, in two trucks whose drivers were trying to bring the merchandise into Colombian territory illegally.

The proportion of Americans who feel that immigration is the biggest problem facing the country rose 5 percent in June to 17 percent this month, the highest since 2006, pollster Gallup said Wednesday.

“Immigration now virtually ties ‘dissatisfaction with government,’ at 16 percent, as the primary issue Americans think of when asked to name the country’s top problem,” Gallup said in a statement detailing the results of its latest survey.

Mexican Governor Orders Inspections of State’s Children’s Shelters

Gov. Salvador Jara said Wednesday that he ordered inspections of all the shelters in Michoacan following the discovery of more than 500 children living in squalid conditions at a private facility in the western Mexican state.

“We are going to have to inspect all the shelters carefully, obviously. This is in no way going to be a witch hunt,” the governor told La Z Noticias radio.

Colombia’s Ecopetrol Discovers Crude in U.S. Gulf of Mexico

Colombian state-controlled oil company Ecopetrol on Wednesday announced a crude discovery at a well in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico that it has been exploring in partnership with operator Royal Dutch Shell and Canada’s Nexen.

The Rydberg well is located 75 miles (120 kilometers) offshore in the Mississippi Canyon Block 525 and is expected to yield 100 million barrels of oil equivalent, Ecopetrol said in a press release.
