Blog del Narco: Mexican Police Find 11 Bodies in Clandestine Graves

The bodies of 11 men were found in eight clandestine graves in a forested area in Michoacan, a state in western Mexico, officials said.

The bodies were found on Wednesday night in a field used to gather resin from trees in La Venta, a village located outside the city of Hidalgo, the Michoacan Attorney General’s Office said.

Finance Experts: Mexico’s Economy is in Recovery Mode

Mexico’s economy will continue to recover during the rest of this year, but the situation in international markets poses risks, the Financial System Stability Council, or CESF, said.

Foreign demand and the federal government’s stimulus policies should help bolster the recovery in the wake of first-quarter gross domestic product (GDP) growth that came in lower than expected, the CESF said in a statement.

Eleven people were hurt Thursday when a man authorities described as mentally ill went on a stabbing spree at El Alto International Airport, which serves the Bolivian capital, authorities said.

Initial accounts put the number injured at seven.

Police on Thursday seized machine guns and other military-grade weapons from a drug gang operating here in Brazil’s second-largest city, authorities said.

The arsenal, which includes three combat rifles, 12 shotguns, four machine guns and a large-caliber pistol, was found in DendĂȘ, a “favela,” or shantytown, on Rio de Janeiro’s north side.

Two people were killed and three others, including two children, wounded in three shootings in the cities of Madero and Tampico, both located in the northeastern Mexican state of Tamaulipas, prosecutors said Thursday.

The first shootout occurred on Wednesday in downtown Ciudad Madero, where gunmen murdered an unidentified man, the Tamaulipas Attorney General’s Office said in a statement.

The world premiere of Alex de la Iglesia’s documentary about Argentine soccer great Lionel Messi is set for next Wednesday in Rio de Janeiro.

The film includes new footage shot in Buenos Aires and Messi’s hometown of Rosario as well as images, video and audio that go back to the future superstar’s childhood, production company Mediapro said.

FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee on Thursday suspended Uruguayan star striker Luis Suarez for nine matches after he bit an Italian player during World Cup Group D action this week, ending his participation in soccer’s main international showcase.

Suarez bit Italian center back Giorgio Chiellini on the shoulder as the two players battled for the ball in the second half of the teams’ final round-robin game, played Tuesday in the northeastern city of Natal.

South Korean tech giants LG and Samsung have launched smartwatches running the Android Wear operating system, which was designed by Google specifically for wearable devices.

The smartwatches, which tell time, make and receive calls, have electronic calendars, offer access to the Web and play music, among other features, were unveiled on Wednesday at Google I/O, the annual software developers conference in San Francisco.
