Spains’ King Juan Carlos Resumes Official Travel Schedule

Spain’s King Juan Carlos resumed Tuesday his official agenda abroad with a state visit to Portugal.

The king and Queen Sofia attended a dinner in Cascais with the presidents of Portugal, Anibal Cavaco Silva, and of Italy, Giorgio Napolitano, and their respective wives.

Cristiano Ronaldo Leads Real Madrid to Copa del Rey Final

Real Madrid will play in the Copa del Rey final for the second year in a row after Tuesday’s 2-0 victory over defending champion Atletico Madrid.

The Blancos entered the second leg of the semifinal with a 3-0 advantage after last week’s triumph at the Bernabeu and a listless Atleti side gave up two goals in the first 16 minutes of Tuesday’s clash at the Colchoneros’ Vicente Calderon stadium.

New York City Considers ID Cards for Undocumented Immigrants

The New York City Council’s Committee on Immigration will hold public hearings on Mayor Bill de Blasio’s proposal to provide municipal identity cards for undocumented foreigners.

“During this process there will be audiences so that the community can speak about the need for that document. I have great faith in what we’re going to learn in that process and what we’ll gain by it,” committee chair Carlos Menchaca told Efe.

Cuba and European Union to Deepen and Expand Relationship

The Council of Foreign Ministers of the European Union on Monday approved opening negotiations on a political dialogue and cooperation agreement with Cuba to deepen relations, accompany the reforms undertaken by the communist regime and foster greater respect for human rights in that country.

“These negotiations will help consolidate our engagement with Cuba. I hope Cuba will take up this offer,” the EU’s top diplomat, Catherine Ashton, said in a statement.

Mudslide Kills 14 in Bolivia

A mudslide caused by heavy rains in the central Bolivian province of Cochabamba killed 14 people, including several children, officials said Monday.

The mudslide occurred on Saturday night in the city of Morochata as a result of the heavy rains that have fallen over the last few weeks and buried a number of homes. Rescue teams are having great difficulty in their search for survivors and/or bodies.
