An executive with a company that publishes three of Honduras’ newspapers was found slain Friday inside his residence in the northern city of San Pedro Sula, police said.

Hector Flores, 35, was stabbed to death.

Dream 9 activist Who Defied Federal Gov’t Is Beginning New Life

The life of Maria Peniche, a Mexican immigrant who joined the group known as the Dream 9, has changed radically since she courageously crossed the border into Mexico, then asked the federal government to let her “return home” to the United States.

Close to six months have passed since Peniche, 22, was released from Arizona’s Eloy Detention Center, where she was held for more than two weeks.

Mexico Rescues Humpback Whale Caught in Fishing Nets

Personnel from government agencies and a tour company headed the rescue of a humpback whale found snared in a fishing net in the ocean near Baja California Sur, Mexico’s Environment Secretariat said.

The cetacean was sighted by the ship’s crew of The Abyss, who reported they had seen a pair of humpback whales and that one of them was caught in a net off Punta Ballena, Baja California Sur state, the secretariat said in a communique.

Brazilian Government Seizes 92 Estates Under Land Reform Program

The Brazilian government is seizing 92 unproductive rural estates as part of a program to provide land to family farmers, the Agrarian Development Ministry said Friday.

The latest expropriations bring to 100 the number of properties seized for land reform in 2013, the ministry said in a statement.

Toll-Road Operator Wins Brazil Highway Contract

Brazilian toll-road operator Invepar on Friday was awarded a 30-year concession contract to operate a stretch of the BR-040 federal highway linking the capital, Brasilia, and the southeastern city of Juiz de Fora.

Invepar, which holds concessions to operate Sao Paulo’s international airport, Rio de Janeiro’s metro network and five highways, beat out seven other groups by offering a 61.13 percent discount to the maximum toll set by the government, the National Land Transportation Agency said.

Though Anderson Silva’s middleweight title fight against Chris Weidman back in July was a major upset for the Silva, the former title holder, Saturday’s rematch proved to be even more shocking.

Following the Brazilian fighter’s title loss to Weidman at this past summer’s UFC 162, many were immediately calling for a rematch. No one had seen “The Spider” Silva defeated in quite some time, so fans of both he and Weidman were curious to see if Weidman could pull out another TKO.
