Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa on Tuesday here made a definite push for cooperation with Russia in energy matters and in other strategic sectors.

“Very important things have been settled” for Ecuador, Correa said of his second visit to Russia in four years.

Soccer Club Executive, Bodyguard Gunned Down in Honduras

Soccer club executive Melvin Sanders and a bodyguard were shot to death Tuesday at his residence in northern Honduras, police said.

A police spokesman told reporters that Sanders’ body was found inside the home in the municipality of Choloma, along with that of his bodyguard, identified only as Kevin.

The two main contenders in the Houston mayoral race hope that Hispanics, who make up 44 percent of the Texas city’s population, will go to the polls and will be decisive in the Nov. 5 balloting.

Two-term incumbent Annise Parker’s main opponent is Ben Hall, an African-American attorney.

Violence and threats against union members continue in Colombia, as does the subcontracting of workers with no intention to abide by labor laws or rights, according to a report released Tuesday by two Democratic members of the U.S. Congress.

Reps. George Miller of California and James McGovern of Massachusetts published a 53-page report that focuses on the abuse of labor rights in Colombia a year after a trade pact between Washington and Bogota went into effect.

Last Saturday and Sunday after gas stations were targeted in Michoacán by Molotov cocktail attacks, the same thing happened Tuesday in Quinta Roo, when two radio stations were attacked.

La Laguna also recorded a similar attack last week at the Millennium Group facilities. On October 22 The Millennium Group, which houses the newspaper and the television station, was attacked with petrol bombs that caused no injuries but alarmed citizens.

In recent days five restaurants have been raided by individuals with guns, the restaurants were robbed, as were belongings of diners.

Senator Ted Cruz has become the darling of the Tea Party and other extreme right Republicans. He is seen as their potential presidential candidate. He is a superb orator and the big plus – he’s Hispanic. One needs to put a pan below the chin of the right wing members to catch the drool.

They now know that in order to win the White House their candidate must take between 35 to 40 percent of the Hispanic vote. So having a candidate that not only thinks like they, is a great orator, with leadership qualities, and also Hispanic they feel is a winning combination.

If right wingers don’t know it, surely Ted Cruz does. Hispanic is a generic description for the various descendants of numerous Spanish speaking countries in the Western Hemisphere. Cruz happens to belong to one such group – Cuban-American.

Colombian healthcare workers took to the streets on Tuesday to denounce the crisis in the sector and express their rejection of an overhaul being discussed in Congress because they feel that it will worsen the situation.

In Bogota, workers dressed in white lab coats gathered in National Park prior to marching toward downtown Bolivar Square.

Cuban blogger Yoani Sanchez spoke Tuesday about her wish that women would come to the fore in the future political and social life of Cuba.

“I’d like the Cuba of the future to wear skirts, in the sense of political debate” and integration, Sanchez said during a Google+ Hangout on Challenges for Women Leaders.

LatAm Rock Group Los Rabanes to Kick Off U.S. Tour in Miami

The Panamanian rock group Los Rabanes is returning to the United States after an absence of 10 years and launching a tour that will begin in Miami on Oct. 31 and will also take the band to Washington, Connecticut and New York.

After a decade away from U.S. stages, the bandmembers who won a Latin Grammy in 2007 say that returning to the country to promote their new album “Urban Rock” is “very satisfying.”
