Energy Secretary Pedro Joaquin Coldwell said he was confident that the Senate would work its way through the three energy industry reform proposals and approve a far-reaching bill.

The conservative National Action Party, or PAN, presented a bill on July 31, while President Enrique Peña Nieto unveiled his energy industry reform proposal on Aug. 12 and the leftist Party of the Democratic Revolution, or PRD, released its own plan a week later.

Earlier this year, Alejandro Fernandez successfully released his latest album Confidencias. The first single and video from the album was his duet with Christina Aguilera, “Hoy Tengo Ganas de Ti,” but it is this week’s release that really has people excited.

For the first time in 20 years, Fernandez recorded a song with his iconic father, Vicente Fernandez.

Several hundred clowns from across the Americas attending the 18th International Clown Convention took to the streets of Mexico City to call for an end to violence and protest organized crime groups’ use of disguises to rob and murder people.

The protest started on Wednesday, the opening day of the convention, in a Mexico City park, where the clowns gathered to share smiles, jokes, sweets, balloons and plastic noses with children of all ages.

During an interview with MTV this week, “Miss Movin’ On” singers Fifth Harmony revealed they would be one of the opening acts for Demi Lovato’s Neon Lights Tour.

The girl group, made up of Ally Brooke, Normani Kordei, Dinah Jane Hansen, Camila Cabello, and Lauren Jauregui, were signed to a record deal after coming in third on the second season of The X Factor. Each of the girls had auditioned separately for the singing competition, but were later brought together to be a singing group by judge Simon Cowell.

The United States needs to fix its broken immigration system this year, President Barack Obama said Thursday.

“This is not just an idea whose time has come, this is an idea whose time has been around for years now,” he said during a White House meeting with business and labor leaders, clergy and other activists working for immigration reform.

“Leaders like all of you have worked together with Republicans and Democrats in this town in good faith for years to try to get this done. And this is the moment when we should be able to finally get the job done,” the president said.

Only a few “bad individuals” are involved in the slaughter of dolphins documented by an environmental group that alleged that up to 15,000 of the marine mammals are being killed for their meat each year in Peru, Deputy Fishing Minister Paul Phumpiu said.

The government plans to take measures to deal the killing of dolphins, a practice that is illegal in Peru, Phumpiu said.

One of the founders of the once dreaded “Tijuana Cartel” was finally captured. Manuel Aguirre Galindo, alias “El Caballo”, who since 2003 has had an arrest warrant for extradition to the United States.

Although his detention has not been officially confirmed by the federal authorities, it has emerged that the “financial brain” of the criminal organization was arrested in Mexico City on Saturday by agents of the Federal Police. It was found that the infamous Aguirre Galindo, almost 70 years old and originally from Mexicali, is being was held at the maximum security prison of El Altiplano, in the nation’s capital.

Spanish Singer Manolo Escobar Passes Away, Age 82

Singer Manolo Escobar died Thursday at his home in Benidorm, the city in southeastern Spain where he had been hospitalized recently for treatment of cancer, sources close to his family told Efe. He was 82.

The singer, who had been battling the disease for several years, entered a clinic in early October due to kidney and other problems.

He was released a few days ago and had been recuperating at home.

Argentina actress Christian Bach and her actor son, Sebastian Zurita, will share the screen for the first time in the new telenovela “La Impostora,” Telemundo Studios said.

Shooting is under way now in Mexico, Telemundo said in a press release.

ArtBo Festival to Showcase 65 Galleries in Colombia

The 9th Bogota International Art Fair, or ArtBo, Colombia’s largest art festival, will open its doors to the public on Friday, showcasing the holdings of 65 galleries from 21 countries.

The four-day art fair will give visitors an opportunity to attend seminars and view individual exhibitions by Colombian and foreign artists.

Gol airlines said one of its planes covered the Sao Paulo-Brasilia route using biofuel, a first for Brazil’s aviation industry.

The flight took place on Wednesday to mark Day of the Aviator in the South American country.
