Real Madrid captain Iker Casillas said Thursday that he will have to consider leaving the club where he has spent his entire career if management declines to reinstate him as starting goalkeeper.

Casillas, who is also the captain of Spain’s national team, lost his starting position with the club after missing several months last winter due to injury.

Spain Arrests 17 Thieves Connected With Country’s Biggest Jewelry Heist

Seventeen people were arrested as suspects in the biggest jewelry heist in Spain’s history, the December 2012 theft in Madrid of wristwatches valued at more than 23 million euros ($31.4 million), police said Thursday.

Among those arrested is a known thief, Ismael A.V., alias “The Troll,” who is considered to be the architect of the heist.

It may seem like a typical conversation, but for these youth, their dreams of traveling the world may never become reality. As undocumented immigrants, they are unable to leave the United States because if they do, they might not be able to get back in.

Obama Calls For Congress to Pass Immigration Reform By End of Year

President Barack Obama on Thursday called on lawmakers to pass a comprehensive immigration reform package before the end of the year after the task of resolving the fiscal crisis kept parts of the U.S. government shut down for 16 days and almost caused the country to default on its debts.

“There’s already a broad coalition across America that’s behind this effort of comprehensive immigration reform, from business leaders to faith leaders to law enforcement,” said the president.

After a violent gun battle municipal police rescued a Catholic priest who had been kidnapped.

The parish pastor Juan Ackerman Carlos Ayon, was in the church yesterday morning with several subjects, when the criminals took him. He is pastor at “Divine Providence” in Colonia Libertad, in the region of Otay Mesa.

As far as the motivation for why the criminals kidnapped the Priest, their intentions remain unknown. Authorities had not been notified of the Priests kidnapping until they found themselves fired upon and the gunfight ensued.

Drug Operation Seizes 1 Ton of Cocaine in Spain

Spain’s Civil Guard confiscated a ton of cocaine from South America in several shipments and arrested 18 people in a months-long operation, authorities said Thursday.

The operation enabled law enforcement authorities to dismantle one of the most important drug trafficking networks between South America and Spain, an outfit that had established a significant infrastructure in the Spanish ports of Barcelona and Valencia, the Civil Guard said.

Singer, Composer Alejandro Sanz to Receive Honorary Doctor of Music Degree

Spanish superstar Alejandro Sanz will be receiving an honorary doctor of music degree from Berklee College of Music where he will be feted with a 40-piece student concert of his own music.

The award-winning singer and songwriter will receive this honor on November 6, 2013.

Sanz has won a total of three Grammy Awards and 16 Latin Grammy Awards, including three Latin Grammy Album of the Year Awards.  Berklee is home to ‘Berklee Latino’ music program conducted in Spanish and launching in Mexico City in 2014.  The school’s ‘Berklee on the Road’ program holds music teaching workshops throughout Latin America.

Orlando “El Duque” Hernandez’ Baseball Programs in Hotwater in Hialeah

What began as a way of to get kids interested in baseball is apparently becoming a political campaign issue.

Complaints about the alleged privatization of publicly owned baseball fields around the city of Hialeah are mounting, but baseball aficionado Dagorberto Acosta said he has yet to see a locked gate at nearby Benny Babcock baseball field.

Spanish actor Antonio Banderas talked about the film concerning 33 trapped Chilean miners, in which he will star, in this capital, where he was on hand to present the perfume “Her Golden Secret” and engage in other activities.

At his first appointment in the Chilean capital, where he also will present a photo exhibit and participate in charitable events, Banderas said that he still does not know what the script will look like for the film about the 33 miners who in 2010 survived for 70 days buried 700 meters (2,300 feet) underground in a collapsed mine in northern Chile.

Soccer icon Pele welled up with emotion as he reflected back on his days as a member of Brazil’s national squad and Brazilian club Santos during the launch here of what he called the “definitive book” on his storied career.

“It was very moving to see all those images because it made me think of all the people who loved and supported me during my career: my family, friends, teammates and fans,” Pele said on Facebook.

Colombian artist Fernando Botero has taken a nostalgic look back at his childhood with a new work titled “Circus: Paintings and Work on Paper.”

The 81-year-old painter and sculptor said Wednesday he was inspired by his visit to a circus six years ago in a small town on Mexico’s Pacific coast, and during the book launch seemed to still have the images of that show fresh in his mind.

Panama is ready to welcome the leaders of Latin America, Spain and Portugal for the 23rd Ibero-American Summit, where the member governments are set to embrace a switch from an annual to a biennial schedule.

Representatives from the 22 states that make up the Ibero-American community were working Thursday to finalize the documents to be approved by the summiteers.
