The efforts made by the media in Latin America to integrate their business models with the digital world are still being hampered by the slowness with which advertising agencies are investing in this sector.

Ad agencies are still reticent when it comes to changing their business paradigm, Adriana Cisneros, vice chairman of Venezuela’s Cisneros Group, and Luis Fernando Santos, former head of Colombian publisher Casa Editorial El Tiempo, said Thursday at the Festival of Media LatAm in Miami.

Cuban Singer Pablo Milanes Hospitalized for Food Poisoning

Cuban singer Pablo Milanes on Thursday was admitted to a Buenos Aires hospital for food poisoning and the concert he was scheduled to give in the evening here was postponed until the weekend.

The 70-year-old artist was diagnosed with pancreatitis and will have to have complete rest for the next 24 hours, the concert promoters said in a statement.

Mexican Companies Look to Enter European Auto Market

Several companies in Mexico’s automotive industry took part this week in a trade mission to Slovakia and the Czech Republic with an eye on entering the European market.

Entry into the European market is a real possibility, whether directly or via a partner, Dalia Terrones, business manager of Forza Global Solutions, which specializes in assembly line protection systems, told Efe Thursday.

The foreign ministers of Spain and Argentina met Thursday to discuss working together to resolve their countries’ respective disputes with Britain over Gibraltar and the Falkland Islands.

Aides to Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Garcia-Margallo told Efe that Gibraltar and the Falklands were discussed.

The central government took charge of security at the country’s main international airport after learning that military and civilian officials connived in smuggling 1.5 tons of cocaine to France, Venezuela’s interior minister said Thursday.

“That airport security unit ... has been taken over and all the necessary changes will have to be made there to guarantee that it doesn’t occur again,” Miguel Rodriguez Torres told reporters after participating in a government event in Caracas.

The U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights is investigating complaints from Latino students about unfair treatment at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, the News & Record newspaper said Thursday.

Nine current and former students say that A&T’s admissions department demands that Latinos present their immigration documentation and register at the international students office, even if they are U.S. citizens.

The incidence of teenage pregnancy in the Dominican Republic is between 25 percent and 30 percent, an alarming level, according to two experts consulted Thursday by Efe.

“This is a brutal problem. We’re the fifth-ranked country in all Latin America in teenage pregnancies,” Santa Mateo, the adviser on sexual matters for the Dominican section of the NGO Plan, said within the framework of World Contraception Day.

Attack on Bar in Northern Mexico Leaves 4 Dead

Gunmen killed at least four people early Thursday at a bar in northern Mexico and wounded two others, authorities said.

The attack occurred around 1:00 a.m. at the Chatos bar on the west side of this northern industrial city, capital of the border state of Nuevo Leon, a spokesperson for the state Attorney General’s Office said.
