Texas authorities are investigating the circumstances behind the dead body of a woman found in the pool of the Texas home of “El Charro of Huentitan” Vicente Fernandez earlier this week.

The home located in San Antonio, Texas is owned and maintained by the iconic singer but not occupied by him or his family.  On Labor Day the body of a woman in her underwear, who according to reports appears to be in her 40s, was found floating in the backyard pool.

California’s senior senator, Dianne Feinstein, didn’t mince words “Stop deporting farmworkers” or you risk crippling the country’s food supply and devastating the agricultural industry.

Senator Feinstein has asked Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) authorities to stop deporting undocumented agricultural farmworkers much the same way ICE has stopped deporting undocumented youth.  Her plea comes in light an acute worker shortage affecting the 81,000 farms in her state.

U2 bassist Adam Clayton wed his long-term girlfriend, Brazilian model Mariana Teixeira de Carvalho in his native Ireland.

The low key ceremony was held in Dublin amidst a small group of family and friends.  Reportedly bandmate The Edge attended the nuptials but front man Bono did not.

The U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee approved on Wednesday a bill that would authorize President Barack Obama to order attacks on Syria to punish Damascus for its alleged use of chemical weapons against rebels.

The measure, which passed the committee by a vote of 10-7 with one abstention, is likely to be considered by the full Senate next week.

Rookie Geno Smith, who had an unspectacular preseason, will start at quarterback against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, the New York Jets said.

The 22-year-old Smith, a second-round pick out of West Virginia, is starting because of the shoulder injury sustained by incumbent Mark Sanchez.

Cuban Judoka Claims Someone Bribed Him to Throw World Championship

Cuban judoka Asley Gonzalez, the champion in the 90-kilo weight class at the recently concluded World Judo Championships in Rio de Janeiro, said someone offered him a bribe to throw the gold medal match, official media reported Wednesday.

Gonzalez did not indicate who tried to bribe him but said he was offered between $15,000 and $20,000 to purposely lose the middleweight contest.

Sofia Vergara was the highest-earning U.S. television actress for the second year in a row, pulling in an estimated $30 million during the 12 months that ended June 30, Forbes magazine said Wednesday.

In July, the 41-year-old Colombian beauty received a fourth consecutive Emmy nomination for best supporting actress on the strength of her performance in ABC hit comedy “Modern Family.”

What Are These Curious Structures Discovered in Peruvian Amazon?

Mysterious little structures found in the Peruvian Amazon are stumping some of the top scientists in the world.

Troy Alexander, a graduate student at Georgia Tech, first spotted the structure on June 7 on a blue tarp near the Tambopata Research Center, in southeastern Peru.

Alexander later saw these tiny structures, only 2 centimeters (.78 inch) across, on tree trunks in the rainforest.

Regardless of which creature constructed this environmental oddity, it has had many scientists scratching their head.

Cuba’s Communist government is urging a display of yellow ribbons on Sept. 12 in an appeal to the United States to release four Cuban intelligence agents who have been in custody since 1998, official media said Wednesday.

The “special day” coincides with the 15th anniversary of the agents’ arrest in Florida.

Venezuelan-American fashion designer Carolina Herrera is kicking off New York’s Fashion Week by ringing the closing bell at the NASDAQ today.

In honor of the launch of the eponymous Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Herrera along with the executive produce of Fashion Week, Christina Neault will go to Times Square today to ring the bell at 3:45 pm. EST.

FC Barcelona super-striker Lionel Messi and his father have paid 5 million euros ($6.6 million) in back taxes owed to Spanish authorities, the superior court for the Catalonia region said Wednesday.

The judge investigating allegations of tax fraud against Messi decided against setting bail considering the soccer star’s global status and solvency and the payment that his father and co-defendant, Jorge Messi, made in August to tax authorities, the court said.

The United States Geological Service (USGS) is reporting a 6.0 magnitude earthquake has struck the Guanacaste province in Liberia, Costa Rica this morning, 6:29 a.m. local time.

The earthquake struck 11 miles deep in the Pacific Ocean approximately 27 miles west of Sardinal, Costa Rica.  There are also reports of aftershocks in Manzanillo de Santa Cruz.

Brazilian police dismantled a ring that supplied U.S. rifles to drug traffickers, authorities said Wednesday.

The operation, carried out with support from Interpol and U.S. authorities, involved the arrest of five people in Brazil and two others in the United States, Federal Police said in a statement.

What can’t super model, entrepreneur Gisele Bundchen not do?  Check out this video where the Brazilian beauty sings for retailer H&M, she is its new face of the Fall Fashion Campaing.  You clearly hear her Portuguese accent coming through on the song “All Day and All of the Night.”  We don’t think the Kinks, who sang the song originally, would mind, she’s not bad - making us even more jealous.

Just last month the 32-old was named “Highest Paid Supermodel” for a 7th year in a row by Forbes.  She earned $42 million in the last 12 months representing brands like H&M, Victoria’s Secret amongst others.

Alberto Carrillo Fuentes, the brother of the leader of Mexico’s Juarez drug cartel, was behind much of the violence in the states of Chihuahua and Sinaloa, federal security spokesman Eduardo Sanchez said.

The 46-year-old Carrillo Fuentes was arrested last Saturday during an operation staged by the Federal Police in Bucerias, a small beach resort town in the western state of Nayarit.
