Chicago’s close-knit Latino community in Little Village is grieving a double murder-suicide that left a mother and her five-year-old daughter dead and the trigger man in critical condition.

Kelly Coca, 28 and her daughter Carla Eguez are believed to have been killed by her estranged husband, an army vet and father of Carla.  Early this morning the unidentified man, who lives in Miami, arrived unannounced at the home Coca shares with her Bolivian parents.

Colombian singer Shakira filed a complaint in the Bahamas against ex-partner Antonio de la Rua for taking nearly $6.7 million without her consent, according to documents reviewed by Efe on Tuesday.

The lawsuit was filed in October 2012 but its content was not made public until this Tuesday.

Three teens in California’s Bay Area stand accused of using social network website Badoo.com to arrange “dates” with men while posing as young women looking for sex.

The teens would tell their dates they were looking for sex and suggest they bring a lot of money to their arranged meet-ups.

Two dozen inmates were injured Tuesday morning in a brawl and subsequent fire at a prison in the central Chilean city of Quillota, authorities said.

The regional director of the prison guard, Juan Carlos Manriquez, said the fire began at 1 a.m. and was started by prisoners who began burning mattresses and other objects that they then threw out the windows of their cells after getting into a brawl.

A woman is reportedly doing well after giving birth to a record-breaking baby in Spain recently.

Maxime Marin gave to birth to a 13-pound baby on Wednesday in Alicante, Spain, and surprisingly did so with no epidural. Even more astounding was that Marin later described the birth of her daughter as fairly painless.

Mexico and the United States plan to unveil a series of “major improvements” later this week on the Tijuana-San Ysidro international border crossing in an .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) the millions of daily border crossings, the Mexican Foreign Relations Secretariat said Tuesday.

“These modifications will increase the capacity of the lanes on the border bridge and facilitate the flow of passengers crossing the border,” the secretariat said in a statement.

Two members of the Brazilian air force’s flight demonstration squadron died Monday when their airplane crashed on a training mission, the military said.

The accident occurred around 9:10 a.m. near the runway of the Air Force Academy in Pirassununga, a city in central Sao Paulo state.

Around 10:30 a.m. local time a 6.7 magnitude earthquake struck near Colombia in the Pacific Ocean the USGS is reporting.  The quake occurred 62 miles southwest of Mutis near Quibdo, Colombia some 200 miles southeast of Panama.

No injuries or major damage have been reported and no tsunami warnings have been issued by the Colombian government.

Cuban Communist Party daily Granma paid tribute Tuesday to former President Fidel Castro on his 87th birthday with words once spoken by Venezuela’s late President Hugo Chavez.

“Fidel does not belong to Cuba alone, he belongs to this our world, to this our America,” was the Chavez thought cited by Granma.

The Association of Former Federal Narcotics Agents U.S. said it was “outraged” by the release of Rafael Caro Quintero, siting that contributed heavily to corruption of the judicial system in Mexico.

“The release of this violent butcher is just another example of how the good faith efforts of the U.S. to assist the Mexican government is frustrated by the powerful forces of darkness working in the shadows of the system ‘justice’ Mexican ‘’ he said in a statement.

This announcement joins the Justice Department and the DEA, who on Friday expressed deep concerns and upset by the release of the Sinaloa capo.

Caro Quintero, who was freed on Friday after being imprisoned for 28 years, was responsible for the murder in 1985 of U.S. drug agent Enrique Camarena.

“Rafael Caro Quintero should never see the light of day as a free man,” claimed the dea veterans.

The two most famous Argentines alive met here Tuesday as Pope Francis granted a special audience to striker Leo Messi and the other members of the Argentina and Italy national soccer teams on the eve of a friendly to honor the first Latin American pontiff.

“It has been a special day,” the man regarded by many as the world’s best soccer player said during a press conference in the Vatican.

The career bad news just keeps piling up for Spanish radio jock Eddie ‘Piolin’ Sotelo.  The former host of ‘Piolin en la Mañana’ was just released from the family-friendly Free Birds movie. 

It was just last month that the popular disc jockey was suddenly axed from the Univision Radio Network after charges of gay-centric harassment surfaced from fellow employee Alberto ‘Beto’ Cortez.  Shortly after those allegations surfaced another former employee said Sotelo created a hostile work environment.

Authorities are investigating a new sinkhole that on Monday morning swallowed part of a building at a resort in central Florida and forced the evacuation of all the guests, although evidently nobody was injured or worse.

The incident occurred around 3 a.m., when the ground at the Summer Bay Resort in Clermont began to subside into a sinkhole approximately 15 meters (about 50 feet) in diameter and 4.5 meters (15 feet) deep.

Spain’s luxury real estate market has become a magnet for wealthy buyers, especially foreigners and investment funds, looking for opportunities to acquire choice properties selling at discounts of nearly 20 percent due to the economic meltdown.

Foreign buyers are drawn by Spain’s climate and a change in government policy that allows investors acquiring real estate worth at least 500,000 euros (about $660,000) to apply for residence permits.

Spanish shoe designer Manolo Blahnik said Monday that he would present his creations for the first time at London Fashion Week, which takes place Sept. 13-17.

Blahnik’s high-end shoes, known as “manolos,” will hit the runway at the international fashion event, which is organized by the British Fashion Council, or BFC, on Sept. 15.
