Esperanza Releases new Resource for Latino Faith Leaders

Most adults (52%) and teens (57%) think religious leaders and groups should be doing more to help prevent teen pregnancy, according to a new survey released today.  To help address this need as well as the high rates of teen pregnancy in the Hispanic community, Esperanza—one of the largest Latino faith-based evangelical networks in the United States—today releases a new resource, Countering the Silence: A Faith Leader’s Toolkit for Preventing Teen Pregnancy.

A Chilean woman has filed a lawsuit against a New York couple who she says denied her fair pay as well as food and medicine, claiming she was brought to the U.S. and forced into “involuntary servitude.”

Felicitas del Carmen Villanueva Garnica, 50, says she was trafficked into the U.S. where she was forced to work for Malu Custer Edwards, 28, and Micky Hurley, 35, who are also originally from Chile.

CNN Latino, a Spanish-language programming block tailored for the U.S. broadcast market, will be available in South Florida starting next August.

“Having a Hispanic market without having Miami means you’re not in the game - it’s of extraordinary importance” to be operating in this city, Eduardo Suarez, vice president of programming and production for CNN Latino and CNN en Español, told Efe.

Spain’s tax agency may expand an investigation of FC Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi that has already led to charges against the 25-year-old Argentine, judicial sources told Efe.

Messi stands accused of defrauding the Spanish state of some 4.1 million euros ($5.5 million) in taxes on income from endorsements that he allegedly failed to report on his 2007, 2008 and 2009 tax returns.

Chicago had a bloody Father’s Day weekend with 7 dead and 41 shot including a Latino teen, who was the weekends youngest victim. 

As bad as the news sounds this is much better than the crime statistic for the same weekend in 2012.  According to Chicago Police there were 8 fewer shooting incidents this past weekend. Nonetheless, this weekend was the single-most violent weekend of the year.

The governor of the Mexican state of Queretaro said Monday that he planned to discuss seven aviation investment projects worth $150 million with different companies during the 2013 Paris Air Show.

Jose Calzada said in a press conference at the Le Bourget exhibition center that he had about 15 meetings planned with aviation and aerospace companies.

On Sunday, Miss Connecticut was crowned Miss USA 2013, but a group of former Miss USA winners stole some of that spotlight in the name of PETA’s anti-fur campaign.

It has been a long-standing tradition that women on the pageant circuit are often offered fur and other animal products.

In a vote of 7-2 the U.S. Supreme Court struck down Arizona law requiring proof of citizenship to vote.

The state of Arizona under the leadership of Republican Jan Brewer was seeking to enhance federal voter registration guidelines through its “Proposition 200” by requiring potential voters to provide proof of citizenship during the enrollment process.

Pope Francis and Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro dealt here Monday with some of the Andean country’s problems such as poverty and crime, the Vatican press office said.

The 20-minute meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere and also included a discussion of “Venezuela’s social and political situation” following the recent death of long-time President Hugo Chavez.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation has reached a milestone that it wishes it hadn’t – adding the 499th and 500th names to its “Ten Most Wanted Fugitives” list.

Added to the lists were Jose Manuel Garcia Guevara, aka “Pelón,” an alleged murderer and rapist, and Walter Lee Williams, an alleged child sex predator.

Her new line, Gisele Bündchen Intimates, was shown at the Brazil Fashion Salon that opened Sunday and where fashionistas can see the styles of bikinis and lingerie that Sao Paulo designers have come up with for the next Southern Hemisphere summer.

On Father’s Day, Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL) reminded Americans that the immigration bill making its way through Congress is paramount to millions of mixed-status families.

“I want to say it’s Father’s Day. A study just came out this week in Illinois, 56,000 children were left without a mom or a dad, some without parents in the last six years,” Gutierrez said on Sunday’s This Week. “It’s something we have to end. It’s a tragedy, what’s happening to American immigrant families. ”

Eliceo Gomez is the owner of a place where he has sold stolen gasoline in the village Ojo de Agua, near San Juan de Alima. Eliceo utilizes hawk and radio to warn of police movements and EM-CO.  Gasoline is sold in containers of 20 liters, has a cost of 250 pesos. He also sells diesel. This pair of criminals ( Eliceo and his brother) have devastated the businesses engaged in the legit trade,(Bimbo, Marinela, Barce, Coppel)

The gasoline is stolen and then resold.
