The Utah Foster Care Foundation says it is looking for permanent homes for the thousands of children currently in the state’s foster care system, and have stated that they would like to see more Latino families bring the children into their homes.

There are currently more than 2,600 children in the state’s foster care system and that 26 percent of those children are Hispanic.

“It’s a high percentage. We do not have enough Latino foster families to meet all the needs of the children in the system,” Christina LeCluyse of the Utah Foster Care Foundation told a local Fox News affiliate.

LeCluyse said that parents need to be prepared to take in a foster child. After six months of preparation, the foster parents are faced with the sometimes difficult task of fostering children that have been abused or neglected.

Not all children that go into foster homes are up for adoption, however. Many just need temporary care and may return to their biological families, so taking culture into account is important.

The UFCF says they are looking for more Latino families in order to place the children with culturally appropriate homes.

Last Wednesday, an event was held in Salt Lake City to educate the public about adoption and/or becoming foster parents.

Monday, In trying to report in the middle of the Occupy Wall Street movement once again, Geraldo Rivera saw himself “chased out” of the crowd, as most of the protesters were not willing to speak to anyone from a news network they say has lied and attempted to paint them all as a bunch of un-American hooligans.

The Fox News reporter spoke with protesters last week, but this time was met with angry, non-violent chants of “Fox New lies!” and “hey, hey, hey, goodbye” when he left.

Though Rivera was able to perform a portion of his report, the entire live broadcast was done with a background of “Fox News lies!”

In the end, those in the vicinity cheered as Rivera and his crew walked away.

Below is a video captured by Russia Today’s Lucy Kafanov . It shows just how unwelcome Rivera and likely anyone from Fox News is at Occupy Wall Street.

World’s Largest Megavirus Found in Chilean Coasts

The “Megavirus chilensis,” is between 10 and 20 times bigger than the largest Megavirus ever documented, was found in Chile’s Pacific Ocean.

The particle is about 0.7 micrometers (thousand of a millimeter) in diameter, larger than some bacteria; it is so large, that it can easily be observed using any microscope.

Viruses cannot reproduce alone; they need to invade a host cell if they want to multiply.

DNA test results show the Chilean Megavirus has more than a thousand genes,  loaded with the biochemical map to build the systems that it needs to reproduce inside its host.

Lab tests on fresh water amoebas showed that Megavirus constructs large trojan organelles -“cells within cells” in order to produce new viruses to infect other amoebas.

The previous record holder, Mimivirus, was found in a water cooling tower in the UK in 1992.

Pearce Supporters Created “Sham” Candidate for Arizona’s Recall Election Against Him

Pearce Supporters Created “Sham” Candidate for Arizona’s Recall Election Against Him

Last week, Olivia Cortes withdrew from Arizona’s Legislative District 18 recall election of controversial Senate President Russell Pearce. She has since faced questions from those who believe she was recruited by Pearce supporters to split the votes of those against him, and a Maricopa County judge says there is indeed evidence to support those claims.

Cortes, an immigrant who many believed stood a good chance of picking up the Latino and fellow immigrant vote, only filed to challenge Pearce in July, which is why many were surprised she was already dropping out.

However, it has come to light that Cortes’ campaign was orchestrated by Pearce supporters like Greg Western, chairman of the East Valley Tea Party.

The Cortes campaign began to fall apart after it was realized that she was not doing many interviews and was “shaky” on the issues when would speak.

It was Republican candidate Jerry Lewis’ campaign however, which sparked the investigation into Cortes’ campaign.

Lewis’ supporters went to court to challenge her campaign after uncovering information connecting Pearce to Cortes.

It was discovered that Pearce’s nieces helped collect signatures to get Cortes on the ballot and that his brother, Lester, a justice of the peace who is prohibited from campaigning, accompanied them.

Rather than go back to court, Cortes’ lawyer relayed that she was willing to simply drop out.

And though she has bowed out, Judge Edward O. Burke of the Superior Court of Maricopa County said Cortes would not be taken off the ballot.

When giving his ruling, Judge Burke stated, “The court finds that Pearce supporters recruited Cortes, a political neophyte, to run in the recall election to siphon Hispanic votes from Lewis to advance Pearce’s recall election bid.”

Ballots with the three candidates names have already been printed, but election officials stated that on Election Day (November 8) signs would be posted saying Cortes was no longer running.

Judge Burke said he wound no wrong doing on the part of Ms. Cortez, citing her strong opposition to “Pearce’s harsh legislative treatment and comments about illegal Hispanic immigrants.”

Pearce was the sponsor of highly controversial Arizona immigration law known as SB 1070.

This recall election is the first in Arizona history.

Supreme Court to Hear Case of Man on the Verge of Deportation

In the years following Joel Judulang’s parents’ arrival in the U.S., they became naturalized citizens. However, they failed to filed the proper paperwork to qualify their then 8-year-old son for citizenship.

More than two decades ago he was involved in a altercation that resulted in a person being shot and killed. He was arrested and pled guilty to voluntary manslaughter.

In 2005, more than sixteen years after his conviction, the U.S. government commenced proceedings to deport Judulang from the United States based on his manslaughter conviction.  And an immigration judge ruled that he was removable and the Board of Immigration Appeals dismissed his claims that he received derivative U.S. citizenship through his parents.

Earlier this year, it was argued that the circuit courts are split three ways as to whether lawful permanent residents can seek discretionary relief from removal after they are rendered as such through certain guilty pleas. Under current guidelines, an immigrant in Judulang’s situation must leave and re-enter the United States after their conviction to seek relief under former Section 212(c) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA).

On October 12, the Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in Judulang’s case in Los Angeles where he is currently out on bail.

Chávez Endorses #OccupyWallStreet On the Eve of New Cuba Medical Trip

Chávez Endorses #OccupyWallStreet On the Eve of New Cuba Medical Trip

Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez will travel to Cuba next week to undergo medical tests to assess the success of his cancer treatment.

In an unexpected phone call interrupting a Venezuelan government ceremony for local athletes broadcast live on state TV, president Hugo Chávez greeted his people saying “It’s the ghost speaking, the ghost of Miraflores.”

“I’ll be in Cuba next week because they have to conduct very rigorous examinations that are possible thanks to Cuban technology,” Chavez continued.

During the impromptu interview Chavez said he is undergoing constant treatment, exercising and consulting with doctors.  He also said he is sunbathing.

Chavez has become somewhat of a flickering actor in the political arena,  disappearing from public view for a couple of days in which rumors about his health spread like wildfire, only to come back saying he is stronger than ever, and dish out his usual incendiary political commentary; he has become the first foreign politician to endorse #OccupyWallSt:

“This movement of popular outrage is expanding to 10 cities and the repression is horrible, I don’t know how many are in prison now,” Chavez said in comments at a political meeting live on state TV, From Miraflores Palace. “Poverty’s growing, the misery is getting worse, but that empire is still there, still a threat ... [President Barack] Obama is on his way down, for lots of reasons. He was a big fraud.”

Clever and eloquent like always. But our favorite quote of the week by President Hugo Chávez has to be “The doctors told me my hair is growing, and I’m thinking of growing an Afro” ask and you shall receive, Hugo!
