SUNDAY- Among the six killed and 13 injured reportedly in Tucson, Ariz. was 9-year-old third-grader Christina-Taylor Green. Green had two personal connections to Major League Baseball; She was a daughter of Los Angeles Dodgers scout John Green and a granddaughter of former Philadelphia Phillies manager Dallas Green.
The Sheriff’s Office said early Sunday morning that the correct last name of one of the victims who died in the shooting is Dorothy Morris.
—The Pima County Sheriff’s Department is expected to hold another news conference at 11 a.m. Sunday (1 p.m. ET).
—The University Medical Center in Tucson will offer a patient condition update at 10 a.m. Sunday (12 p.m. ET).
—As of 3:45 a.m. Sunday, Congresswoman Giffords remained in critical condition, said Darci Slaten, spokeswoman for the medical center. Of the nine other shooting victims taken to that hospital, four others were in critical condition and five were in serious condition.
—Early Sunday morning, the sheriff’s office released a surveillance camera photo of a male between 40 and 50 years old who is “possibly associated with the suspect.” The dark-haired man was last seen wearing blue jeans and a dark blue jacket, and was seen at the location where the shooting occurred.
—At 2 p.m. Sunday, a caucus conference call has been scheduled for House Democrats and their spouses to get an update on the shooting, two congressional sources said.
—At 8:30 a.m., Speaker of the House John Boehner will address the media in West Chester, Ohio, about the shooting.
UPDATE 3-An Arizona shooting critically injured US Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D) and left an aide, a 9-year-old child, a federal judge, and at least two others dead, law-enforcement officials say. Among those killed was US District Judge John Roll. He joined the federal court in 1991, and for part of his tenure, he had served as chief judge.
UPDATE 2: Jerod Lee Loughner ( 22) has been identified as the shooter and is in custody.
UPDATE: The UMC Hospital has just held a press conference. Ten people were admitted to the hospital from the shooting today in Tucson. On child approx 9 years old has died. The congresswoman has undergone surgery for a gunshot wound that went through her head and brain and is in critical condition Five of the ten admitted are in critical condition.
ORIGINAL: Gabrielle Giffords, the 40-year-old Democrat, who was re-elected to her third term in November, was hosting a “Congress on Your Corner” event at a Safeway in northwest Tucson when a gunman ran up and started shooting, according to Peter Michaels, news director of Arizona Public Media.
At least nine other people, including members of her staff, were hurt. Giffords was transported to University Medical Center in Tucson. Her condition was not immediately known. The Hospital Reports that she is currently in surgery as are the other victims from the shooting.
Giffords was talking to a couple when the suspect ran up and fired indiscriminately from about four feet away, Michaels said.
The suspect ran off and was tackled by a bystander. He was taken into custody. Witnesses described him as in his late teens or early 20s.
Giffords was first elected to represent Arizona’s 8th District in 2006. The “Congress on Your Corner” events allow constituents to present their concerns directly to her.
