The Great Chilean Earthquake Struck in 1960

Today in Latin American history, the Great Chilean Earthquake, which was the most powerful earthquake ever recorded, hit southern Chile in 1960.
The 9.5 Valdivia Earthquake caused nearly 6,000 deaths after the resulting tsunamis, floods, landslides, and volcanos.
There was also an estimated $800 Million ($5.8 Billion in today’s value) in damage.
The 1960 Chilean earthquake was actually a series of strong earthquakes that affected Chile between 21 May and 6 June 1960.
