Today in Latin American history, the Real Madrid football club was founded in 1902.
Founded as the Madrid Football Club, the club has traditionally worn a white home uniform since its beginnings.
The word Real, Spanish for royal, was bestowed to the club by King Alfonso XIII in 1920 together with the royal crown in the emblem.
Today, Real Madrid is regarded as a top club both in La Liga, the Spanish League, and in the Champions League, the European League.
