Today in Latin American history, Puerto Rican actress and dancer Chita Rivera was born in 1933.
Rivera is the first Hispanic woman and the only Latino American to receive a Kennedy Center Honors award. She also was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2009.
She has appeared in many Broadway shows over the years and has won 2 Tony awards.
