First Democratically Elected Governor of Puerto Rico Took Office in 1949
Today in Latin American history, Luis Muñoz Marín became the first democratically elected Governor of Puerto Rico in 1949.
In 1948 he was the first democratically elected Governor of Puerto Rico, spearheading an administration that engineered profound economic, political and social reforms on the island; accomplishments that were internationally lauded by many politicans, statesmen, political scientists, and economists.
Don Luis Munoz Marin was a major figure in promoting democracy in Latin America.
