Bolivian Women Stood Up to Spanish Troops at the Battle of La Coronilla in 1812

Today in Latin American history, Bolivian women from Cochabamba fought the Spanish army at the Battle of La Coronilla in 1812.

During the Bolivian War of Independence, the women fighting for the country’s independence were slaughtered by the Spanish army.

Today, Mother’s Day is celebrated to commemorate this battle.
