Today in Latin American history, Argentine military commander Don José de San Martín who was the first President of Peru was born in 1778.
Don José de San Martín was an Argentine soldier, statesman, and national hero who helped lead the revolutions against Spanish rule in Argentina (1812), Chile (1818), and Peru (1821).
San Martín is regarded as a national hero of Argentina and, together with Bolívar, one of the liberators of Spanish South America.
