Today in Latin American history, Argentine activist Adolfo Pérez Esquivel who won the Nobel Peace Prize was born in 1931. He is known for his stance against violence.
Pérez Esquivel established the human right organization Servicio Paz y Justicia, this group worked to defend political prisoners in the different South American dictatures during the Dirty War in the 1970-80s. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1980.
