New Florida Law Said to Racially Profile
Tallahassee, Florida’s version of the Arizona SB 1070 immigration bill, drafted by Florida State Representative William Snyder, may just clench the title of “Most Racist New Law”.
The most odd and seemingly racist part of Snyder’s law is where it says that even if an officer has “reasonable suspicions” to question a person’s immigration status, the person will be “presumed to be legally in the United States” if the person provides “a Canadian passport” or a passport from any “visa waiver country”.
In the end, anyone that doesn’t look “white” will more than likely be racially profiled.
Susana Barciela, the policy director of the Florida Immigrant Advocacy Center, says, “That language makes it clear that police are targeting only a specific minority.”
