National Guard Place 532 Troops at Arizona Border
Friday, the National Guard said about half the troops President Obama sent to Arizona have taken their place along the state’s southern border.
The 532 troops, however, do not have the power to detain illegal immigrants or anyone else but carry guns for self-defense. The U.S. Customs and Border Protection are using the personnel as extra eyes and ears.
In May, Obama ordered 1,200 National Guard troops to cover the entire U.S.-Mexico border.
