Missouri Politician Dodges Questions on Hiring an Undocumented Immigrant
Missouri’s GOP Senate Candidate Roy Blunt was a little more than annoyed when a reporter asked him to clarify his position on whether or not he hired an undocumented immigrant.
Blunt is accused of hiring undocumented immigrant Dora Narvaez in 1990 to do work for his wife while he was Secretary of State. He is said to have written a letter for the Nicaraguan woman when she was seeking political asylum.
When controversial reporter Mike Mahoney began asking Blunt questions, the following exchange occurred:
MICHAEL MAHONEY: Did you know this woman you wrote the letter for, or not?
BLUNT: What a—You know, that’s just such nonsense, Mike, and you know it. And it’s desperation politics on their side. And, uh, these issues are bigger than that. We put a statement on that at the time. It was accurate at the time. You can go back and read it.
MAHONEY: Did you know her or not?
BLUNT: We put a statement on that at the time. And it’s exactly accurate. You read it, and you know what it says.
MAHONEY: She says that she did work for your family, sir.
Mahoney’s was the last comment, and was said to Blunt’s back as he angrily walked away.
