Dallas County Jail Guard arrested Friday was deported in 1998.

Maria Elvia Ross , 34 was arrested Friday on charges of being in the country illegally. Ross had worked in the Sheriffs department since 2001. Ross had been assigned in 2006 to an elite quality assurance team in the Sheriffs department jails. Ross’s immigration issues only came to light because she applied to become a deputy Sherriff and a background search was initiated.
It has been discovered that Ross was deported from the United States in 1998, ICE spokesman Carl Rusnok confirmed Monday. He would not provide the circumstances of the deportation or of Ross’ re-entry into the country.
Dallas County and Sheriffs Department officials have begun to implement new procedures that will require periodic reviews of the records of non-US citizens working with-in the system.
