Senator of South Carolina to Introduce Anti-Birthright Citizenship Measure

Republican senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina announced Wednesday night his intent to change the 14th amendment, which currently grants citizenship to any child born in the United States. The new measure would no longer grant citizenship to the children of immigrants born in the United States. Senator Graham said during an interview with Fox News that “Birthright citizenship I think is a mistake…”, he refers to the children of undocumented immigrants that automatically receive citizenship rights once they are born in the country. The South Carolina Republican intends to introduce a constitutional amendment to change the existing citizenship regulations. He insists on being “fair” and “humane” in dealing with the issue, reasoning that “I’m a practical guy, but when you go forward, I don’t want 20 million more 20 years from now.”
