39 Arrested for Immigration-related Crimes

29 men and 10 women were arrested in their homes in San Diego and in San Diego County cities for crimes involving immigration.

Federal agents in San Diego County said more than half the people were convicted felons for crimes ranging from domestic violence to car theft and drug-related offenses.

The 39 were originally from El Salvador, Guatemala, the Philippines, Somalia and Mexico. They will either be deported immediately or held for immigration hearings.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) sweep was led by their fugitives operations program, which targets immigration fugitives and criminal immigrants.

Between last year’s fiscal year and this year’s (ending Sept. 30), ICE agents have made 2,500 arrests. (1,343 so far this year and 1,157 last year)
