Today in 1940 the great Mexican composer Ernesto Cortazar II was born in Mexico City. The tireless Taurus composed musical arrangements, mostly for the piano, for over 500 Latin American films. His compositions are marked by their tranquil and serene quality.

Cortazar came from a musical family. His father Ernesto Cortazar Hernandez was a musician and composer who founded Mexico’s National Association of Writers and Composers. The gift composer won acclaim at an early age when at 18-years-old his “River of Dreams” composition was awarded best composition of the year.

Cortazar’s music has been downloaded millions of times and between 1999-2001 he was mp3.com most downloaded musician. He died in 2004 after a long battle with cancer.
