Today in 1897 the great Brazilian director and screenwriter Humberto Mauro was born in Minas Gerais.
Mauro is considered one of Brazil’s greatest directors starting first with silent movies and then talkies. The pioneer filmmaker has many iconic films to his credit that include Ganga Bruta, Thesouro Perdido and Braza Dormida. In the later part of his career he focused on making documentaries.
This tireless Taurus has sixteen directorial movie credit, four screenwriting credits and over 200 movie shorts for the National Institute of Educational Cinema. His 1930 film Jornal do Brasil won film of the year honors.
