Today on 1967 ballet great Julio Bocca was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Considered one of the greatest ballet talents to come from Latin America, Bocca was a Principal Dancer for 20 years with the American Ballet Theatre. His final dance was for the American Ballet Theatre was in 2006 at the Metropolitan Opera House after having danced with some of the greatest ballet companies in the world that include the Royal Ballet of London, Opera Ballet of Paris, Ballet Nacional de Cuba and Ballet Nacional de Mexico.
This creative Pisces started studying ballet at the age of 4 and was accepted into the prestigious Institute Superior of Art at Argentine’s Teatro Colon. In 2007 he retired entirely from dancing in front of 300,000 adoring fans in his home town of Obelisco, Buenos Aires. He is often credited with making ballet popular in his native country.
Today he is director of Uruguay’s national ballet company the Ballet Nacional SODRE.
