Today in 1969 author and “Godmother of Chica Lit” Alisa Valdes was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The prolific author has written over a dozen books in 11 languages, with saucy titles like The Husband Habit, Dirty Girls on Top and Playing with Boys. Valdes started as a journalist recognized for her Boston Globe Magazine piece “Daughters of Cuba”.
Valdes hit it out of the park with her first novel The Dirty Girls Social Club which is now being developed as a half-hour TV series on the Starz network. Time Magazine described the hit novel as “fast-paced novel about six young Latina’s trying to get ahead at the office and in the bedroom.”
