Today in 1943 El Puma, Jose Luis Rodriguez, was born in Caracas, Venezuela. This actor and singer conquered many obstacles on the road to becoming an international superstar. He has even survived a persistent social media rumor that he is dead from his chronic pulmonary fibormatosis disease. On multiple occasions El Puma has had to remind his fans he is alive and well.

Raised by a single mother to him and 11 brothers and sisters, Rodriquez started his career as a telenovela actor in Puerto Rico. Thanks to his role as Omar Contreras in the telenovela ‘El Idolo’, he garnered the nickname ‘El Puma’. His career spans over 50 years and includes many beloved Spanish-language hits like “Culpable Soy Yo’, “Por Si Volvieras’ and ‘Baila Mi Rumba’.

This tireless talent is a pure Capricorn relentless in his ambition to further his craft and legacy. He is currently a voice coach on the Argentine version of ‘The Voice’.
