Today in 1986, Mexican professional boxer Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. was born in Culiacan, Mexico. The middleweight champion hails from a family full of boxing champs: father Julio Cesar Chavez is a six-time world champion and brother Omar is the current WBC Youth Intercontinental welterweight champion.
Chavez Jr. like most Aquarian wanted to meet his destiny sooner than later and only had two amateur fights before declaring himself ready to be a professional fighter. In 2011 he won the WBC’s middleweight title and defended it successfully three times before losing to Sergio Martinez in 2012.
Since his championship days Chavez Jr. has had limited time in the ring and has been challenged by injuries, weight issues and an eventual suspension for pot use. He will be given another very high profile opportunity to return to glory with a true Mexican showdown on May 6, 2017 when he will meet Canelo Alvarez in a HBO Pay-Per-View event.
