Hispanic Transplant Program Expands to Add Livers
The Hispanic Transplant program at Chicago’s Northwestern Memorial Hospital is expanding from its initial beginnings of kidney transplants to include liver transplants in order to meet the growing need within the Hispanic Community. Among the Hispanic community there is a higher incidence of conditions that lead to liver disease including obesity and hepatitis.
Last year alone there were 24 kidney transplants done at Northwestern. The Medical staff at Northwestern speak Spanish and work hard towards dispelling common myths about transplants and living donors within the Hispanic community.
