Three Universities and one College in This Region Receive Grants From the Government of Mexico

 IME Fellowship will benefit low-income students who excel academically.
This district had the highest number of approvals.

Four institutions of higher education in the district of the Consulate General of Mexico in Chicago were approved to receive funds from the IME Fellowship Program of Higher Education for the period 2010-11, as a result of the deliberations of the Binational Selection Committee held on November 16.

The institutions are: National Louis University, Northeastern Illinois University and Saint Augustine College, all three based in Chicago, and the University of Wisconsin with headquarters in Milwaukee. Each will receive $ 20,000, the maximum amount of the scholarship.

The program will benefit Mexican students with amounts between $ 3,000 to $ 5,000 dollars to help them pursue their higher studies. One requirement is that the scholarship students perform some kind of social service that benefits the migrant community.

The Foreign Ministry reported that scholarship funds will be granted to 34 institutions that submitted applications in Mexico’s 20 consulates in the United States. Of those districts, the one that corresponds to the Consulate General of Mexico in Chicago was the one that won the largest number of approvals.

The Binational Selection Committee was made up of representatives of the Secretariat of Public Education of Mexico, the University of Monterrey, the Institute for Mexicans Abroad and the Education Commission of its Advisory Board.

Cuatro instituciones de educación superior de la circunscripción del Consulado General de México en Chicago fueron aprobadas para recibir recursos del Programa IME-Becas Educación Superior para el periodo 2010-11, como resultado de las deliberaciones del Comité Binacional de Selección llevadas a cabo el 16 de noviembre pasado.

Las instituciones beneficiadas son: National Louis University, Northeastern Illinois University y Saint Augustine College, las tres con sede en Chicago, y la University of Wisconsin con sede en Milwaukee. Cada una de ellas recibirá 20 mil dólares, el monto máximo de la beca.

El programa beneficiará a buenos estudiantes mexicanos con un monto de entre $3,000 a $5,000 dólares para ayudarlos a continuar con sus estudios de nivel superior. Uno de los requisitos es que los estudiantes becados desempeñen algún tipo de servicio social que beneficie a la comunidad migrante.

La Secretaría de Relaciones Exteriores informó que se otorgarán fondos a 34 de las instituciones solicitantes que presentaron candidaturas a través de 20 representaciones consulares de México en los Estados Unidos. De esas circunscripciones, la que corresponde al Consulado General de México en Chicago fue la que obtuvo el mayor número de aprobaciones.

El Comité Binacional de Selección se integró por representantes de la Secretaría de Educación Pública de México, de la Universidad de Monterrey, del Instituto de los Mexicanos en el Exterior y de la Comisión de Educación de su Consejo Consultivo.
