Infinity Insurance announced the launch today of the Read Conmigo Program. Read Conmigo provides parents with tools to improve their families’ reading habits and foster a lifelong love of reading.
Reading to children leads to academic, social, and financial successes as they grow older. This message to parents is reinforced by several studies including the Annie E. Casey Foundation’s Kids Count report. However, parents in Spanish-speaking households face unique challenges when it comes to reading to their kids. Among those challenges is a lack of confidence in their own English skills. According to Read Conmigo, reading to your kids in any language models an important behavior and life skill.
Read Conmigo is designed to support parents, grandparents, caretakers and educators whose language preferences range from Spanish or English to fully bilingual. At the center of the program is Club Read, a free monthly subscription delivering original award-winning bilingual children’s books. The program has already distributed more than 30,000 books to participating families.
“With help from parents, growing up bilingual can be a huge advantage for these kids”, states Janndee Heppner, Read Conmigo Program Director.
Read Conmigo debuted the last weekend of April in Los Angeles and Phoenix at events like the Festival of Books and Lea LA. Future events are being scheduled in cities across the country including:
· Philadelphia, PA
· Houston, TX
· Miami, FL
· Las Vegas, NV
· Atlanta, GA
