Chicagoland Educational Opportunities for Hispanics
Often times we don’t really know what’s happening in our own backyard. We know what we are doing and what those who are close to us are involved in, either through family connections or geography. But we aren’t really aware of other things happening right under our noses. I am sure there are many things in my own community that I don’t know about, but I follow things that are familiar and of interest to me; things like educational opportunities.
Remember a four year degree not only improves your annual wages but increasing the number of college graduates in a community increases the overall personal income of the whole community.
Let me tell you some of the things that I think are interesting that are happening in your community now. My focus is always on education and I am routinely encouraging people to get a bachelor’s degree. Remember a four year degree not only improves your annual wages but increasing the number of college graduates in a community increases the overall personal income of the whole community. So, of course I am going to share some of the educational opportunities available in your neighborhood, to fatten your pocket book and to improve the community.
National Latino Education Institute, NLEI, is partnering with National-Louis University, NLU, to offer Bachelor’s degrees for those students who successfully complete several of their vocational programs.
National Latino Education Institute, NLEI, is partnering with National-Louis University, NLU, to offer Bachelor’s degrees for those students who successfully complete several of their vocational programs. Students will earn some college credit for the NLEI vocational training and then complete their general education courses and major, in either management or health care leadership, to earn a Bachelor’s degree. El Valor, serving the community since 1973, partners with several universities to provide access to educational programs within the community. One of the most successful is the MBA program with NLU.
These initiatives build collaborative relationships between the community organization and the university to assure that the offered program and services are designed to meet the needs of the particular population of students. Partners, agencies and universities, are key elements to transform communities. But those partnerships don’t work without you! Take a look around you, talk to those who you know are interested in education, and those already going back to school. Learn about the educational opportunities in the neighborhood, and take advantage of them.
