Carlos Gonzalez the Colorado leftfielder won the National League battle title in 2010 so you would think he is a good hitter.
Gonzalez told mlb.com, “I won a batting title in 2010 swinging at everything, swinging at balls,” Gonzalez said. “When things like this happen, they happen. I have a really good swing. When the ball is close to the plate, I know I can reach any ball, inside or outside. But right now, I feel really good at the plate and I have more discipline.” This new plate discipline has paid off this season. In his last four games he is 10-for-16 with five home runs, two doubles and seven RBIs.
After the 2011 season where he batted below .300, Gonzalez knew he had to change his approach at the plate, if he was going to help the Rockies compete in the National League West. He is now hitting .323 with 13 home runs. In last night’s game against the Houston Astros he collected four hit, three of them for home runs. He had four RBI’s and three runs scored. The Rockies routed the Astros 13-5 in Houston. The Rockies are now 9 games below .500.
Gonzalez is signed with the Rockies until the 2017 season.
