The University of Michigan has announced that it has cancelled an internship program based in the Central American country of El Salvador after three of its students were robbed at gun point.
The program known as the Global Intercultural Experience is for undergraduates of UofM as a type of study aboard program. The robberies occurred at the end of July in the capital city of San Salvador.
A University spokesmen noted that 14 students and their faculty leaders were asked to leave El Salvador and return to the States, since it was believed criminals were intentionally targeting students from abroad.
