With Albert Pujols no longer with the defending World Series Champs, St. Louis Cardinals, Yadier Molina, known as ‘Yadi’ needed to step up and become the leader of the team.
He did just that Tuesday night when the team faced the Chicago Cubs. With the Cardinals recent struggles they badly needed a win and Yadi gave it to them with a RI single giving them a 7-6 victory over the Cubs.
With the game tied at 6 in the bottom of the ninth, Molina delivered a two out single to score the winning run against Cubs pitcher, Rafael Dolis. After the game Molina spoke with mlb.com, “It was a great moment,” Molina said. “To get the win like that, especially when you’ve lost four games in a row, it’s exciting.”
Molina is best known for his hit a two-run home run in the top of the ninth inning off Aaron Heilman of the New York Mets, in the 2006 NLCS , giving the Cardinals a 3–1 lead and helping them secure a trip to the 2006 World Series, where they defeated the Detroit Tigers in five games.
The Cardinals catcher is also known as one of three brothers in major league baseball who are also catchers. The three brothers have made hisotry since they are the only trio of brothers to each have played and won a World Series. Puerto Rico is very proud of this trio.
