When attempting to get away from police and leading them on a car chase, the key is usually to drive at a high rate of speed. However, one Houston man did not get that memo, and led local police on a bizarre high-speed chase.

Police reportedly noticed the front of Andres Martinez’s car was smashed and appeared to have been in an accident, possibly a hit-and-run. When they attempted to pull him over and ask about the damage Sunday morning, Martinez refused to stop and began a 15-minute chase on the Gulf Freeway.

What made this chase different however, was that the 24-year-old never drove over 40 mile per hour.

Not helping his case, Martinez reportedly attempted to hit a squad car before finally ending the chase at the freeway’s Monroe exit.

Martinez later told police he was not trying to hit the police vehicle, but what rolling a joint and trying to call his “peeps” to let them know he would be going to jail.

As a result of the low-speed chase, Martinez faces several charges, though prosecutors’ attempts to charge him with attempted murder for nearly hitting the officer were not successful, the judge saying there was not enough probable cause for the charge.

His bond was set for $30,000.
