The Costume Institute Met Gala 2012 was held last night to benefit the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and many Latin beauties were out to impress.
There was Brazilian beauty Camilla Belle in a metallic beaded Ralph Lauren gown, while Colombian stunner and Modern Family’s Sofia Vergara wore a Marchesa gown with Harry Winston jewels.
Jessica Alba wore a gold metallic gown by Michael Kors, and Cameron Diaz also chose metallics with a custom-made Stella McCartney gown created from glass beads and crystal chains. Eva Mendes donned a Prada couture that was bright orange and really stood out.
Of course the men did not disappoint either. The red carpet saw crooner Bruno Mars in head-to-toe Prada donning an afro-style hair do. Quarterback Tom Brady had the weirdest hair style of the evening but had the best accessory his wife Brazilian super model Giselle Bundchen who wore Givenchy Haute Couture.
The Met Gala is a must invitation for the fashion forward. The Gala started back in 1948 with a ticket price of $50 and at that time Grande Dames of fashion wore vintage gowns from the Costume Institute’s collection – no more. Now it’s the place to be seen and does some very serious fundraising, last year the gala took in $9 million.
The gala kicks off a new spring exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art where the Costume Institute collection is held. The next exhibit ‘Schiaparelli and Prada, Impossible Conservations’ was inspired by Mexican Miguel Covarrubias 1930’s “Impossible Interviews” for Vanity Fair.
