California Democrat, Xavier Becerra has been named by House Minority Leader, Nancy Pelosi to sit on the powerful deficit-cutting super committee. He and two other Democratic lawmakers were the final names added to the bi-partisan panel entrusted to reduce the U.S. budget deficit by $1.5 trillion this fall.
The super committee as it has been dubbed by some on the Hill will consist of : Sens. Patty Murray (D., Wash.), John Kerry (D., Mass.), Max Baucus (D., Mont.), Jon Kyl (R., Ariz.), Rob Portman (R., Ohio), Pat Toomey (R., Pa.), and Reps. Dave Camp (R., Mich.), Fred Upton (R., Mich.), Jeb Hensarling (R., Texas), Chris Van Hollen (D., Md.), James Clyburn (D., S.C.) and Becerra.
Becerra, the son of working-class Mexican immigrants, has been in Congress since 1993 and is currently a member of the Ways and Means Committee and the Vice Chair of the House Democratic Caucus.
