A 7th grader is dead after being shot in Chicago’s Brighton Park neighborhood over the weekend.

Roberto “Adrian” Luna was just 13 years old when he was shot and killed outside his home Saturday night. Witnesses say they heard the shooters yelling gang slogans just before they opened fire.

Luna was a 7th grader at Irene Hernandez Middle School and his family says he was not affiliated with a gang, and was a “kid full of life, a kid full of joy.”

He and two other boys were shot at around 10 p.m. Saturday night. Luna was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, while a 15-year-old was taken to John. H Stroger Jr. Hospital along with a 16-year-old.

After being shot in the head and upper torso, Luna was pronounced dead at 11:19 p.m., while the other boys remain at Stroger. The 15-year-old is listed in critical condition and the older boy, who was shot in the arm, was listed in fair condition on Saturday.

The shooters’ were reportedly wearing masks when they approached Luna and the other boys and opened fire. They then jumped into the nearby van.

Luna became the fourth fatality among 19 wounded by gunfire since Friday.

Crime Stoppers is currently offering a reward of $1,000 to anyone with information regarding the shooting.
