The critically acclaimed novel The Madonnas of Echo Park by Brando Skyhorse has now been picked up by HBO for adaptation into a drama series.
The project will reportedly be written by Julia Cho, the award-winning playwright who has also written for the hit show “Big Love” (HBO) and “Fringe” (Fox).
The novel takes a look at the world of Los Angeles’ Echo Park neighborhood and the lives of Latinos who inhabit it. Though the neighborhood has changed since the time Skyhorse lived there the story remains modern, as the tale of the Mexican immigrant in search of the American dream continues today.
Also collaborating on the HBO project are Terra Nova pair Aaron Kaplan of Kapital Entertainment and British writer Kelly Marcel, who will serve as executive producers.
