According to Spanish-language news source El Excelsior, Mexico’s federal police performed a surprise search of a Tabasco Prison a facility and found a number of alarming items.

Upon searching the prison’s State Center for Social Rehabilitation last week, officers found alcohol, cell phones, drugs, and even knife-like weapons.  In total, about 400 grams of marijuana and 200 grams of cocaine were recovered, as well as three cell phones, 8 sharpened weapons, and several litres of alcohol.

Though the unannounced search was an overall success, a group of prisoners did attempt an uprising. However, the federal police say they were able to control the inmates without injury.

Since the search, more than 150 officers have been stationed outside the facility and visitors’ and attorneys’ access to the prisoners has been restricted.
